Are you heading back to Los Angeles or Omaha? They have a new minor hockey team in Omaha, the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights. They are the AHL affiliates of the Calgary Flames, my favourite team.

Ask and you shall receive! Thanks for the update. I am so jealous of you, I wish I could be taking Spanish classes! When you come back, you will speak and understand better than me I think! I had 3 hours a day (M-F) for 3 weeks the last time I spent a long time in Ecuador. Before that, I had just had like 1 class a week for...8 weeks maybe? That's puts you ahead of me for sure! I expect an email soon, ALL IN SPANISH!!!
Also, if you could give me a refresher on por vs. para, that would be greatly appreciated.
AND, if you learn any expressions specific to Guatemala, I would love to learn them. I have a consistent flow of Guatemalan patients here. -- you can just teach me some classes when you get to Omaha.

I was in London a month ago. Then went to Eastern Europe...were I got sick, too. You should go to Wimbeldon, I went in 1999. Sounds like you are having a blast. I have been doing that veggie thing for years now. Fast Food Nation will be a movie soon...why read? If you go to Stockholm, check out the Vasa Museum....and if you get a chance, see a World Cup game. Take care, you ROCK!!!

AMAZING! Scarification and some sort of Reiki and pitpocketing and being a good luck charm, that's nuts! I am totally living vicariously through you. Have you read "First they killed my Father" ? It was written by the international spokesperson for Campaign for a Landmine Free World. She was a child soldier in the Pol Pot regime too. Your tour guide had quite a few more touches with death though. I am glad he lived to tell the story. It needs to be told.

Wow, I can't believe you've done all that you have already. How's the transition from nice eating/sleeping/bathing going? Nice to know where the hot water showers are. Wow, I read through your adventure thus far, and I can't believe you are truely exploring the whole world. I thought it was "simply" a European trip. New Zealand looked beautiful and a great place to start. I am sorry to hear you are sick though. I guess if you have to be sick, a beautiful, sunny place is the place to be. Hi Kat,
I just read through your entire journal to date and am so sorry to know that you are sick. Having spent quite a lot of time in Asian countries, including time on deserted islands off Malaysia on diving trips with accommodations similar to some of those you describe, I can appreciate how you must feel. Please, please take care of yourself and get to a doctor for some effective medication as soon as you can. I could share horror stories related to the water and mosquitos but will spare you that - just take care of yourself - please.

The pictures from your latest journal entry (5 March) look great! The views of the island and pics of some of the locals are amazing and will make for memorable stories when you return. We're enjoying highs in the mid 50s back in Nebraska while you're burning up in the 90s but I'm sure that you are managing. I'm looking forward to your next exciting journal entry from New Zealand!
